Sagebrush Coffee

It certainly is no indication of good coffee, but there's something about giant coffee shops. There are precious few in the northeast but once the region of super high rents begins to fade in the rear view mirror, the landscape starts to blossom with shops the size of houses. One recent visit to Arizona turned up a fine specimen, a gorgeous, large footprinted cafe slinging out good coffee called Sagebrush.

Located in a strip mall, Sagebrush splits its space 50/50 between a voluminous production space and surrounding seating. The shop has plenty of windows and an overall open layout, making it feel intimate in spots and gaping in others.

The coffee that day was a Brazilian single origin for the espresso and a pourover of a Panama. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, chiles, cream, pears and buttermilk, proving sweet and balanced. The pourover also proved delightful, with notes of caramel, cocoa, banana bread with walnuts, nectarine and apple soda.

After sitting in various spots as I sipped my beverages, I had to bid the shop adieu as I moved on to handle some business. If you are in Chandler or the surrounding area, give Sagebrush a visit for great coffee in a large space.
