People say a lot of things are the perfect ying to the yang of coffee, but for many of the world that grew up before Amazon destroyed bookstores, books have a special place in the evolution of coffee culture. There's something about flipping through a fresh brook while sipping on a hot cup of coffee that just makes one pine for simpler times.

But there exist a few bastions of caffeinated reading throughout our land, one being Pressed Coffee & Books in the land of Yuengling. Situated in a corner shop across the street from the offices of a coal company, Pressed has some outside seating guarding their giant front windows. Inside, the shop has its bar and seating up front with their books lining a shelved galley in the back of the shop.

As for coffee, they utilize their own coffee under the name Downtown Roasters, with both the espresso and the drip the day of my visit being Coaltown. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, bran, pistachio, raspberry and some spinach, proving sweet and bright. The drip also made for a delicious infusion, with notes of lemon, nougat, cherry, biscuits, black tea, strawberry and cream.

After finishing off my drinks and perusing the literary arsenal, I had to hit the road east. If you happen to be in Pottsville or the surrounding area, give Pressed Coffee & Books a visit.
