The Walk In

Good coffee rarely exists alongside good food. I know I say it a lot, but it's worth repeating since there is no excuse I'm willing to hear. Most eateries that dish quality meals still, even in this age of great coffee options, serve sad java to their patrons. Conversely, many coffee shops that serve excellent drinks (can) rarely serve a solid full menu. It is the great coffee-food conundrum.

But occasionally, a great nexus roars out of the darkness and I heard its call in Livingston Manor. In passing through the area on evening, on my way to a lovely nearby lodge, I glimpsed a place called The Walk In. I had not heard of it prior, but it caught my eye and no sooner did I complete a quick internet overview that I had my sights set on the shop for the next morning.

Arriving early, I eventually found the side entrance where the food and drinks were ordered, and then we went onwards to the dining area. The coffee purveyed is Variety Coffee and I ordered an espresso of Lucky Shot and a drip of Roadhouse. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, pound cake, lemon curd, sweet tea, romaine and nutmeg, proving luscious and sweet. The drip also delivered superbly, with delicious notes of nougat, rye, whole milk, roast artichoke, caramel and mineral water.

As alluded to earlier, in addition to the great coffee, there were two other amazing facets to The Walk In. The first was their killer biscuit sandwiches and the second was an amazing bakery across the street called The Neon Croissant that's owned by the same folks. Needless to say, head to Livingston Manor without delay, as gems like this don't appear often.
