Cannon Coffee

Driving through western Maryland one early afternoon, I (shockingly) had a strong hankering for some good coffee. Knowing that most shops shut down around 2 or 3 PM these days (how I miss the days of the evening coffeehouse culture), I managed to find a promising prospect in Hagerstown at a place called Cannon.

After locating some street parking, I walked over to the charcoal-colored shop situated amidst a beautiful brick sidewalk. Inside, the ambiance is cozy and inviting, like one of those reels with the crocheted frogs reading books. Aside from its cozy, sophisticated look, Cannon boasts a healthy amount of seating, both inside and out, with tons of natural light coming in through the many windows.

As for coffee, they were serving their Twelve Pound blend, a medium-dark coffee currently consisting of Honduran and Colombian beans. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, sweet cranberry sauce, passion fruit, hibiscus and rye, proving bright and deep. The drip coffee proved a little heavier, with notes of vanilla, pretzel, apple, arugula, cream and pie crust.

After spending some time drinking in the visit, I had to blast off back to the road. If you're looking for great coffee in the Hagerstown area, give Cannon Coffee a shot.
