Fog & Flame

I find that Pennsylvania still has gems unearthed even after criss-crossing the eastern half for the last twenty-something years. One particular new-to-me place was a town called Bloomsburg. Having seen it frequently in pamphlets as the backdrop to the local university, I was finally able to become acquainted with the town and a local coffee shop.

The shop was Fog & Flame Craft Coffee, a well-sized coffee establishment on the main stretch of town. The shop has public parking in the back so I pulled in and walked around to their front door, flanked on either side by giant windows. Inside, the shop is well-decorated with lots of nuance and natural light.

The coffee came from Intelligentsia that morning (it looks like they at least partially roast their own coffee now), with my selections that morning being their Analog for espresso and House for drip. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of pomegranate, cherry, biscuit, caramel, chocolate cookie, milk and a little seaweed salad, proving smooth and sweet. The drip also made for a good infusion, with bright, full notes of black cherry, seltzer, dried orange, malt, apple candy and a little plum.

While I evaded Bloomsburg for too long, I shall not make my return visit with haste. If you happen to be in the area, check out Fog & Flame Craft Coffee for a delightful respite.
