In my experience, too few coffee shops are open past supper. Yes, for the most part I get the economics as to why most shops close up around four, but man does an evening meet-up over well-crafted coffee hit the proverbial spot.
But occasionally I am able to find a shop of repute open late, with one of my more recent exploits to a Missourian shop called Travellers House. Located in the beautiful town of Springfield, Travellers resides in a strip mall, occupying a large space with lots of tall windows, appealing decor and a horde of seating options.
As for their coffee, they utilize No Coast Coffee, a local Springfield roaster that I have had good experience with prior. I ordered an espresso of their espresso blend and a pourover of a single origin Costa Rica. The espresso, pulled short with blonde-ish brown crema, smacked of chocolate nibs, lemon, ginger, vanilla and a little seltzer, proving bright and fairly delicious. The pourover similarly delivered a bright and sweet coffee, full of cherry cola, passion fruit, almond milk, lime, raspberry and caramel in a medium body.
To put it bluntly, Travellers made for an excellent stop. Not only was the coffee tasty but I was also able to cross paths with a good friend and colleague for some hearty discussion. If you traverse Springfield, try out one of Travellers House's locations toot sweet.
