The concept of a coffee shop is often a subjective thing. Quite often, folks think of a single space with a giant counter and plenty of seating. But some of the more interesting and great coffeehouses exist in less traditional spots, like converted public restrooms, outdoor shanties and small outfits adjoining shared space.

While traveling east from Erie did I come across one such gem known as Javamango's Outpost. Operating out of a small shop within the lobby of an office building, Javamango creates a lovely coffee oasis perfect for local workers and patrons passing through.

The day of my visit happened to be when Pennsylvania inside dining was in flux, so seating was not available (hence the yellow tape). Undeterred, as my family was only permitting me a brief coffee stop, I ordered up an espresso of their espresso blend (I believe it was called Starpower?) and a drip coffee of single origin Colombian, both coffees from Little Amps. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, pretzel, mango, skim milk, blackberry syrup and a little arugula, proving overall sweet and good. The drip coffee proved overtly delicious, with bright notes of grape, raspberry, corn chips, blackberry seltzer and seaweed.

While my time was short at Javamango's, it definitely made for a good impression and a great coffee stop. If you happen to be nearby or passing through, definitely check out Javamango's Outpost.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
