Cogito Coffee

State lines are funny things. Depending on the two states, sometimes a coffee shop has half a dozen locations within feet of a border yet not a single shop on the other side. Sure there's a lot of bureaucratic red tape to blame, but when push comes to shove, no one likes paying to cross a bridge for a cup of coffee.

But on the opposite side of the spectrum, you have coffee roasters that have coffee locations in various countries like Cogito. Started in Croatia, this coffee roaster boasts shops in Dubai and Philadelphia. Since Dubai and Croatia are a little out of my wife's allowable trip radius, I was happy to try out their newer Philly location. Blessed with giant front windows and a sprawling floor plan, Cogito offers gorgeous art, appealing furniture and plenty of seating.

As for coffee, I chose an Ethiopian single origin for their espresso and a single origin coffee from Honduras for the drip. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate cherries, vanilla, kale, seltzer, mozzarella, passion fruit and lime, proving really bright and potent. The drip coffee also made for an excellent beverage, with deliciously smooth notes of tomato, cocoa, caramel, rose, kiwi, rye and a little romaine.

After polishing off my drinks I had to head out, but found myself very pleased with my first experience with Croatian coffee. The next time you find yourself in Philadelphia, Dubai or Croatia, definitely stop by your local Cogito location to try out their coffee.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
