I never really explored much of North Carolina's mountains save a brief trip to Asheville when I was a teenager. Oddly enough, it took nearly two decades to awaken a desire to revisit, and after a delay due to 2020, I finally made it to a lovely town called Blowing Rock and made a coffee stop at a place called Bald Guy Brew.
Situated in the beautiful downtown, Bald Guy resides in a lovely green shanty with an excellent patio. The interior is cozy, bright and efficiently arrayed.
As for the coffee, I ordered an espresso of their Espresso Blend and a drip of a Mocha Java. The espresso, pulled medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, pretzel, milk, walnuts and a little spring mix, proving sweet and deep. The drip coffee threw down similar and a tad smoother flavors, with notes of caramel, fig, pear, funnel cake, watercress and raisin.
After spending a little time at the cafe, the park down the street called to my children and I had to leave, but I enjoyed my time at BGB much. If you happen to be near Blowing Rock or one of their other locations, give Bald Guy Brew a try.
