During various chunks of my childhood, especially high school and early college, I often frequented a YMCA near my house. Whether it was lifting weights, running laps or swimming, the "Y" was a tremendous convenience in finding all I needed in one spot. It was not last year that I realized I had been cheated.
While in central North Dakota, I happened up on the YMCA in Bismark to find that their facility not only boasted great fitness options, but it also offered giant water slides and a great coffee shop! Lacking a current membership, I couldn't try out the watery amenities, but I was fortunately able to check out the coffeehouse, a local roaster called Mighty Missouri Coffee Co. Situated in the lobby overlooking the huge pool area, Mighty Missouri is a long shop with copious seating, plenty of windows and a pleasant vibe amidst the buzz of the facility.
As for my coffee that day, I decided upon an espresso of their Borealis and a drip infusion of Mighty Morning. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon zest, clementine, sweet tea, biscuit and a little spinach, proving sweet and balanced. The drip brew also proved delectable, with rich notes of apple, caramel, molasses, fig, whole milk and bib lettuce in a medium body.
After polishing off my drinks and taking a final look around the building, I could confidently say that were I to move to Bismark, at least I know there would be a YMCA I would join. If you're passing through or living nearby, definitely stop by, especially to check out Mighty Missouri Coffee Co.
