The mountains of North Carolina have long called to me though it has been tough to visit them. But just recently, I was able to make a quick visit to the area and make a few deliberate stops, one of which was to the city of Boone and a coffee establishment known as Hatchet Coffee Roasters.

Situated well outside of town in what looks like an old business park, Hatchet has a large single-story building that, at the time of my visit, only had outside seating. The interior was voluminous, with beautiful wall art, plenty of space for tables and a well-run front bar that churned out orders fairly efficiently.

As for my coffee that day, I ordered an espresso of their Vesper blend and a drip coffee of a single origin Sumatra. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, limeade, cola, croissant, grape and tangerine, proving potent and bright. The drip coffee also made for a deliciously sweet infusion, with notes of cherry, mango, nougat, cream, sweet rolls and root beer, all in a medium body.

After polishing off my drinks, I had to continue on to the next town, but I left quite satisfied with my stop. If you're nearby or passing through, definitely make a stop at Hatchet Coffee Roasters in Boone.
