Congregation Coffee

Subject: Congregation Coffee
Location visited: Algiers Point, New Orleans, LA

Rating: 6+ [see key]

While the French Quarter is great, exploring the greater NOLA area really rounded out and more fully illustrated the majesty of the crescent city. One such stop off the beaten path involved heading acrosst river to Algiers Point, a charming neighborhood full of colorful homes and a coffeehouse that has long been on my list to visit.

Congregation Coffee sits in the bottom floor of a greyish house dotted with tall windows and outside seating. Inside, the shop offers a variety of seating amidst a roomy space.

On the day of my visit, I settled upon an espresso of their Gallup blend and a single-origin Peruvian via drip. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, caramel, tangerine, granny apple, cream, buttered toast and honey, proving smooth and sweet. The filtered coffee also delivered a flavor ovation, with notes of blood orange, turkish delight, passion fruit, nougat, strawberry jam, elderflower and a little black tea in a light/medium body.

Altogether, the Congregation experience exceeded my high hopes and proved to be a favorite spot on my short trip. The next time you're in New Orleans, stop by one of Congregations locations for a superb coffee experience.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
