Eurasia Coffee & Tea

Many times when looking for a place to crash for a few days, I hope to find affordable-yet-swanky lodging that either offers excellent coffee or has good coffee within a short walk. Often such El Dorados are hard to come by, but every now and then one materializes out of nowhere.

Take Springfield's Culture C-Street, a coffeehouse and hotel rolled into one. Located in a beautiful old building once home to an opera house and mattress factory, the building now houses Eurasia Coffee & Tea as well as the Culture Boutique Hotel, all operated by the same couple. The interior is voluminous and full of sunlight, boasting plenty of seating for guests and locals alike. They used a minimalistic decor throughout, with white walls and exposed red brick in the cafe, and black brick with low light on the hotel side.

Since I was couch surfing with nearby family (my other preferred means of lodging), I mainly focused on the cafe (though in retrospect I wish I had checked out the rooms). As for coffee, I ordered up an espresso and pourover of a single origin Ethiopian. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of lemon, chocolate, mixed greens, orange zest, a little mozzerella and a hint of apple, proving balanced and tasty. The pourover also fared well, with bright notes of strawberry, blackberry, sugar cookie, romaine, bran, toasted caramel and a little rye toast in a medium body.

Having a wedding to later attend, I had to leave shortly after finishing my drinks, but the next time I'm in town I will likely stay longer. If you're nearby or passing through, definitely check out Eurasia Coffee & Tea.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
