While my trips to Montreal are not nearly as frequent as I would like, fortunately shops in the area seem to have a sturdy shelf life. Cafe Myriade is one operation that opened after a trip circa 2007 and over the years I've watched them make great coffee from afar. Finally, nearly ten years later I finally had an opportunity to visit their original Mackay St location for an experience long in the making.

I arrived early one morning to find their building undergoing some massive construction, though inside the place was chugging along as normal. The cafe boasts a gorgeous patio for warm weather and a cozy interior of wood and subway tile for the rest of the year. To my delight, the day was already comfortable by 8 AM and hence, the front windows were drawn to make for a large, open cafe.

For their coffee, they utilize 49th Parallel out of Vancouver as well as a handful of coffee roasters from around the continent. The morning of my visit the coffee was all 49th; I had an espresso of their Old School Blend and a filtered brew of a Colombian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, raspberry, spring mix salad and a little milk, proving balanced and sweet. The drip coffee proved delicious and super smooth, with notes of honey, almond croissant, oolong, plum and a little dandelion in a medium body.

Verily, this visit proved well worth the wait. Not only was the coffee excellent and the space delightful, the barista proved extremely amicable. The next time you're in Montreal, make sure to hit one of Cafe Myriade's three locations for a great cup of coffee.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
