When one looks for great coffee in the southeast US, there's more and more great coffee popping up all over the place, with individual cafes blooming in most major urban centers. Yet one coffee company that has established numerous outposts all over the south is a roaster called Revelator. With shops now in five major southeast cities and plans for further expansion, this relatively new juggernaut has blessed the south with gorgeous shops and delicious coffee.
While heading to Birmingham to meet up with friends, it worked out perfectly to visit Revelator's Alabama facility on a sunny, pleasant afternoon. The space easily lived up to the hype, providing a beautifully simple yet tremendously stylish shop with lots of minimalism and amazing lighting.
As for my drinks, I ordered an espresso of their La Union Colombia and a pourover of a Tanzanian. The espresso, pulled short with light brown crema, smacked of orange, chocolate, sugar cookie, romaine and cilantro, making for a smooth and delectable infusion. The pourover also rocked my socks with a bright brew of of cucumber, blueberry, whole milk, cookie dough and a little water cress in light body.
With such a killer combination of great beverages and beautiful cafes, it's no wonder that Revelator is spreading through the south like fire on a dry savannah. If you happen to be in a town where they peddle their wares, make sure to stop by for some great coffee.
