Philter

The Philadelphia area possesses quite a few great holiday attractions. Yet if I had to distill them down, the two must-see stops are definitely the Christmas Light Show in Philadelphia's Old Wanamaker Building and nearby Longwood Gardens. Both have been a long-standing fixture in my life and if the mobs are any indication, their popularity has done nothing but grow over the years.

Yet for the magic they both deliver, the two differed in one crucial aspect for a long time: Longwood existed far from a great coffeehouse. Fortunately, the void finally ceased and quality coffee is slowly gaining ground in the area. One shop in particular drew my attention to beautiful downtown Kennett Square, a coffeehouse called Philter.

Located in a well-outfitted space, Philter offers a lovely mixture of soothing atmosphere and Ceremony Coffee. Stopping by one lovely afternoon, I found myself a table and settled upon an espresso of the Destroyer Blend and a pourover of their Ethiopia Worka. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, sang of chocolate pretzel, cream, lemon, orange and sarsaparilla, delivering a full-bodied, sweet serenade. The pourover similarly wooed me with a bright brew full of watermelon, strawberry, caramel, vanilla ice cream, nutmeg and cornbread.

After taking time to enjoy my beverages as well as the ambiance, I made my way out quite enamored with this cafe. Thankfully, future trips to Longwood will have a great coffee stop nearby.

Thus, whether you're in Kennett Square for mushrooms or for visiting nearby gardens, definitely hit Philter.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
