Ohio and I did not begin on the best of terms. As a child, my only memories consist of a handful of weary suburbs and local landmarks from when we visited kin. As a young man, I saw the state as but a hurdle on my continental adventures to and fro. Finally in my 30s have I come to slowly appreciate and enjoy the overlooked treasures of the Buckeye State.

One gold chest can be found within the city of Cleveland, in a multi-roaster coffee establishment called Pour. Situated behind many large open windows, the cafe drinks in the sun as eager patrons sit on exterior benches during warm spells. Inside, the cafe offers a delightful mix of subway tile, stylish furniture and high ceilings.

The coffee comes from a rotating variety of roasters from across the globe, a great bonus for local Cleveland-ites looking to try out great coffee the world over. The morning of my visit, I ordered an espresso of Heart Coffee Roaster's Stereo Blend and also a pourover of their Kenyan. The espresso, pulled medium/long with brown crema, resonated notes of lemon, chocolate, ginger, vanilla and a little pepper, making for a creamy and potent infusion. The Kenyan pourover sang of berry, Twix, buttered torte, grape tomato, cherry preserves and a little iceberg lettuce; all around a bright and delectable brew.

Ohio took its time weaving its way into my heart, but with the help of Pour, it finally succeeded in gaining a foothold. Whether you're passing through or looking for a destination, do stop by Pour Cleveland for a rootin-tootin coffee experience.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
